The Big Island and the most unusual accommodations

Well our adventures today started early. Ron and Betsey took us to the airport to catch our standby flight. Shortly after we checked in we decided that chances weren't looking so good and we decided to buy tickets.  That means Al had second thoughts about going for free. Well Ron and Betsey picked us up and we went to try to see the Arizona Memorial. The tickets we got at 7:30 were for the boat to the island at 9:30 which was too late for our flight. We visited many of the displays anyway and were appropriately depressed or saddened by the enormity of the attack on Pearl Harbor and the war.

When we arrived in Hilo we picked up a car and went to Safeway to get groceries before heading to the Volcano House which was about 30 miles away.  Prices are high, high, high.  We met Richard Hamilton at the house we will never forget. Interesting, strange, comfy and fun all at the same time.

Richard the owner cottage was also the builder who restored the place which was originally built in around 1944 and made it the strange and wonderful place it is.
